This spike knife is a simple, entertaining blade to own. Each one is hand forged from a high-alloy railroad spike.
These are great for many tasks, or even as display pieces. You will receive the exact knife shown. Railroad spikes are typically low carbon steel, and don't take an edge well. I use a method to add carbon and fully harden the edge to around 55hrc hardness, about the same as your typical box store hunting knife. This enables this knife to be useful as a skinner, steak knife, almost anything you want. Not many makers are capable of hardening a railroad spike to this degree. These are not stainless and should be treated similar to carbon steels.

Carbon steel knife care - Simple high carbon steels provide excellent hardness, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. By not including the elements of stainless steels, performance can be improved. These steels can rust if not properly cared for. Each blade will come oiled for shipping. After each use involving water, acids, or extended periods of use, the blade should be simply cleaned and given a wipe-down with some protectant of your choice. I personally use mostly silicon based lubricants to protect the blade, as well as aiding to lubricate cutting surfaces during use.
